Hinduism, Christianity and Buddhism Together
Blog post description.
By the middle of the nineteenth century, Hindu religious ideas were all over the Western world. It stimulated intellectual and religious movements in the West.
In the USA, transcendentalists like Henry Thoreau and Ralph Emerson wrote from the perspective of Hinduism.
The religious types started religions that are pure Hinduism in Christological language, such as Mary Baker Eddy’s Christian Science, The Filmore’s Unity Church, and Ernest Holmes Church of Religious Science.
Asian religions also penetrated traditional Christianity. Many young Westerners dropped out of Christianity and called themselves atheists because they could not believe the view of God presented by Christianity.
During the last decade of the nineteenth Century, Hindu religious organizations began sending religious missionaries to the West. The Ramakrishna order sent Vivekananda to the USA in 1893. The Yogis sent the fellow who wrote The Autobiography of a Yogi to America. The Krishna worshipers were all over the streets of Europe and North America.
By the 1960s the likely religion of American college students was an Asian religion, especially Buddhism and Taoism.
Today, Hindu temples are constructed all over the USA, Britain, France, and Germany. That is, Hindus are gradually dominating the world’s religious discourse.
Asians are a rising economic, political, and military power and their religion must rise in the world, it is the way of history.
I do not fight reality; I try to understand it and live with it. In my view, the world must pay attention to Hindu and Chinese religions and philosophies because not only are they intellectually appealing but are the religion of the emerging leaders of the world.
